The Community Development Financial Institutions Fund or CDFI data is used to help financial institutions understand where distressed and underserved areas are, for the purpose of promoting economic revitalization and community development in these areas.
The CDFI data is based on Census Tracts, and identifies which tracts are distressed or underserved, the extent of economic distress, and the existence of empowerment and enterprise zones. CDFI data is typically applied to fair lending compliance activities, but is very helpful in understanding where there may be marketing opportunities to uniquely serve emerging markets. RPM also maintains other digital spatial datasets to aid in community development and reinvestment, including one based on the FFIEC (Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council) low and moderate income area designations, and another based on HUD minority population area definitions.
